Management Essentials – An introduction to management

There is no simple formula for being a successful manager and taking on a management role can be both exciting and overwhelming. Managing other people involves insight, empathy and a measure of boldness. Managers need to make judgements about complex matters and develop the right balance between tasks, business goals and care for people

Managing is not a skill that is natural for most people; it has to be learned, and not in the same way that technical skills can be learnt.

This introductory course will cover some of the essential areas in management including the roles and responsibilities of managers and the importance of management within organisational structure as well as some key skills such as organisation skills, problem solving, and effective communication.

At the end of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Describe what management is and the importance it plays
  • Describe the different roles and responsibilities managers perform
  • Overcome barriers when delegating
  • Identify individual unconscious work habits that can impact on time management
  • Identify what companies look for in a manager
  • Discuss the top mistakes managers make in their jobs
